FAQ
Common questions answered
What is Chiaroscuro?
Chiaroscuro is a contemporary art gallery based in Solihull, founded by Brendan Murphy. We represent over 30 established and emerging artists, offering original paintings and limited edition prints. What makes us different: up to 20% of our profits fund The Dynamo Project, providing recovery support for young men battling addiction.
What does 'Chiaroscuro' mean?
Chiaroscuro is an Italian term used in art to describe the contrast between light and dark. It reflects our belief that beauty can emerge from darkness, and that art has the power to illuminate even the most difficult experiences.
What is The Dynamo Project?
The Dynamo Project is our charitable initiative, funded by up to 20% of gallery profits. It provides mentorship, creative therapy, and support programmes for young men navigating recovery from addiction. The project was created in memory of Kieran Murphy, who lost his life to addiction at 24.
How does my purchase make a difference?
Every artwork you purchase directly contributes to addiction recovery programmes. Up to 20% of our profits go to The Dynamo Project, funding mentorship and creative therapy for young men in recovery. When you buy from Chiaroscuro, you're not just acquiring art — you're helping someone find their way back.
Do you have a physical gallery?
Yes. Our gallery is located in Solihull, West Midlands. We welcome visitors to browse our collection in person, meet the team, and experience the artwork firsthand. Please check our Contact page for opening hours and directions.
What types of art do you sell?
We offer original paintings and limited edition prints across a range of styles and subjects. Our collection spans contemporary, abstract, figurative, and landscape work from over 30 artists who share our vision that art can be both beautiful and purposeful.
What's the difference between originals and limited editions?
Originals are unique, one-of-a-kind works created by the artist. Each is a singular piece that will never be replicated.
Limited editions are high-quality reproductions produced in a strictly limited quantity. Each print is numbered and often hand-signed by the artist, making them collectible while more accessible than originals.
